Katie Sundstrom began singing before she could talk, and she hasn’t stopped since! She is passionate about teaching voice, performing, and conducting vocal ensembles, and has extensive experience in the musical theatre, classical, and pop genres. She earned her Master of Music in Music Education from William Paterson University, where she was awarded the Music Scholar Graduate Award for her thesis on the art of vocal accompanying. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wellesley College, where she earned the Billings Performance Prize in Music and a Jerome A. Schiff Fellowship. Katie has recorded with the National Catholic Choir and the Wellesley College Widows, an a cappella ensemble of which she was the Music Director, and has performed in opera workshops at New England Conservatory, Wellesley College, and William Paterson University. Katie especially enjoys singing new music, and has travelled from the East Coast to the West Coast singing the world premieres of such composers as Christine Chen. Her favorite musical theatre roles include the Witch in Into the Woods, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and Cathy in The Last Five Years. In addition to teaching privately and conducting vocal ensembles, Katie has coached singers and ensembles at the Northern Highlands Regional Playhouse, among others. Katie is thrilled to join the Gateway to the Arts team!
